Probability Definition for Kids

In math, definition of probability is one of the important topics.Probability is the likelihood of the trial. The possible outcomes are said to be the probability. We can also study the concept in online also. The kids can easily find the probability with the help of pictures. Now we will see the example problems for probability.

Examples - Probability for Kids Definition

Example 1

In a kids shop, there are 10 things are available. In those things, 3 are the balloons, 4 are the cups and remaining are the toys. What is the probability for the following outcomes?

          Kids Probability

   i) Select the balloons

  ii) Select  the toys.

Solution:

     Given

        Number of things n(S) = 10

       Number of balloons n(A)= 3

       Number of cups n(B) = 4

       Number of toys n(C)=10-(3+4)

                                         = 10-7

                              n(C) =3.

i)Take  P(A) is the probability for select the balloons.

            P(A)=`(n(A))/(n(S))`

                  =`3/10`

ii)Take P(C) is the probability for select the toys.

           P(C)=`(n(C))/(n(S))`

                 =`3/10`

Example 2

What is the probability for select the letter ‘O’ from the word ‘CARTOON’?

Solution:

     Given word is CARTOON.

     Total letters n(S)=7

     Number of ‘O’ letter n(A)=2

     So the probability=`2/7` .

Example 3

Henry has 4 toys and Jenifer has 3 toys. What is the probability for select the Henry’s toys?

Kids Probability

Solution:

     Henry’s toys n(A)=4

     Jenifer’s toys n(B)=3

     Total number of toys n(S)=4+3

                                                =7

     Probability for select the Henry’s toys= `4/9` .

Practice Problems - Probability Definition for Kids

1) What is the probability for select the letter ‘L’ from the word ‘BARBE DOLL’?

Answer:

     Probability=`2/9` .

2) Tommy has 5 white bats, John has 6 yellow bats. What is the probability for getting the yellow bats?

Answer:

     Probability=`6/11` .

These examples and practice problems are used to study the definition of kids probability.
